Fred on the Issues
I’m dedicated to addressing the critical issues facing Albemarle County — and I believe we can do it by blending sustainable smart-growth with thoughtful preservation. My priorities are rooted in creating an economically strong, environmentally resilient, and socially equitable future for every resident.
Here’s where I stand on the issues that matter to our community:
Affordable Housing
Housing costs in Albemarle have ballooned over the past few years. Our neighbors are being priced out of their homes, with young people being locked out of the American dream.
As Supervisor, I will:
Support the Affordable Housing Investment Fund
Make it easier to build with less red tape and regulations
Focus on Smart Growth within the development area
Preserve the character of our rural communities
Rural & Environmental Stewardship
Protecting the unique character and charm of our county is paramount. Growth doesn’t have to mean giving up who we are. It can mean expanding opportunity while staying true to our core values.
As Supervisor, I will:
Protect our rural spaces and valuable land/water resources
Focus on smart growth within Albemarle's development area
Supporting Our Schools
As the father of two public school graduates and an educator, I understand the value of our public schools.
As Supervisor, I will:
Support funding public schools and modernizing facilities
Advocate for competitive teacher salaries to attract talent
Continue thoughtful education investments for a growing Albemarle
Funding Police & Firefighters
Keeping our community safe is a top priority. We must continue to fight for a safer Albemarle for our families.
As Supervisor, I will:
Support funding police, fire, and emergency services
Support hiring more police, firefighters, and EMS workers for a growing Albemarle
Invest in crime prevention and community policing initiatives
Improve Transit Options
As a 35-year resident and urban planner, I've seen our neighbors spend more time on the road and in traffic. Planning communities and transit options is critical to address our growing population.
As Supervisor, I will:
Commit to improving traffic and road congestion, especially on Route 29
Work with the City of Charlottesville and UVA to improve public transit options
Commit to improving public transportation and finding new solutions
Promoting Smarter Government
The current administration's cuts are threatening our schools, healthcare, clean drinking water, childcare services, affordable housing initiatives, and so much more. Albemarle County has to look inward to make government more efficient to offset these cuts, as well as bring people into the political process.
As Supervisor, I will:

Make the budgeting process more transparent
Commit to fiscal responsibility by borrowing for capital projects that pay themselves back in the long run
Support periodic performance reviews and department audits to streamline government, making more with less
Work to offset the impact of federal cuts on our public services and affordable housing initiatives
