Missel for Albemarle Internship
Role Overview:
The Missel for Albemarle campaign is looking for hardworking, driven students to join our team. This opportunity is geared towards individuals who are looking to learn from and be part of a race that will determine the future of Albemarle County. No prior campaign or political experience is necessary for this role, only a sincere interest and passion in Democratic politics and advocacy work.
Student interns can expect to receive mentorship and training from campaign management, as well as significant opportunities for professional development, networking and exposure to experienced campaign operatives. In this role, interns will:
Take a deep dive into political organizing
Learn the ins-and-outs of grassroots campaigns
Support, prepare for, and staff events with Fred
Work directly with Fred and the campaign manager
Gain practical experience and develop transferable skills that will enhance your resume/college application
Role Responsibilities (In-Person)
Interns will engage in an exciting fall of on-the-ground organizing and serve as ambassadors of the campaign across the Samuel Miller district. They’ll work directly with campaign leadership to execute a voter outreach program that includes activities such as door-to-door canvassing, volunteer recruitment and training, event staffing, and intentional relationship-building within the district.
Qualifications:
Enthusiastic about meeting new people, building relationships and empowering volunteers
Strong organizational skills
Flexible, adaptable, collaborative and communicative with a solution-oriented mindset
Commitment to electing Democratic candidates
Transportation (strongly preferred)
Role Information:
This fellowship program will take place from September 6 to November 4, 2025 and requires a 5–10 hour/week commitment, mostly on weekends. This is an unpaid opportunity; gas/travel expenses will be reimbursed.
Interns will receive a personalized letter of recommendation and a professional reference from Fred Missel upon completing their work for the campaign.
